Page Arizona: Visiting Antelope Canyon

I don’t know what to say about Antelope Canyon. I’ve never seen or experienced anything like it. It's so surreal. The canyon varies from tight alleys that you have to squeeze through, to wide open cathedral like spaces. The red rocks remove you from earth and make you feel like your visiting a distant planet, maybe Mars.

Antelope Canyon is in Page, Arizona. It is separated into two sections, Upper and Lower. The Upper Canyon is famous for the light trails that the sun creates through the cracks above. Since these light trails aren't visible in the winter, when we were there, we only toured the Lower Canyon.

Touring the Canyon

Antelope Canyon is one of the most photographed sites in the country. It’s also one of the most visited. Situated on Navajo land, the only way to go down is with a paid guide. It was so crowded when we went. Gladly, we paid extra for the photographers only tour. Our guide held back the people so that we could set up our tripods and get clean shots. However his help couldn't remove the large groups and long waits that were the only downside of our tour.

We descended into the canyon through this small crack in the ground.

The steep steps into the canyon.

The lion.

Bruce the shark.

The low light made it hard to expose the Polaroids correctly.

The climb back out.

Conclusion

Do it. Just go. Get in your car right now. Antelope Canyon is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
