5 Hole-In-The-Wall Restaurants In Ruston Louisiana

Often the best food is found in the most humble of places. When we travel, we're always trying to find small local places that we'd miss without some help. Eating in Ruston, Louisiana, is no different. Here are our picks for some delicious hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Ruston.

1. The Rib Shack

Ribs!

The Rib Shack is the epitome of a hole-in-the-wall. If you didn't know it was there, you'd drive right by the place. This takeaway BBQ restaurant has been operating in Ruston for over 35 years. And you can't stay in business that long without doing something right. The BBQ was smokey and sweet, and the sides were fantastic. There's no seating at all inside, so grab your food and enjoy one of the many murals downtown while you eat.

2. Nana’s Soul-Food

If you visit the south and don't eat soul-food, did you really visit the south? We don't think so; it's a must-do activity. One of the best places to procure some southern staples is right in the middle of downtown. Dorothea and her husband Ricky have owned Nana's since 2015, but she's been cooking much longer than that. You can look forward to great soul-food dishes such as fried chicken, greens, yams, and freshly prepared hot-water cornbread. You'll love the food but don't plan on moving around much after your meal. It’s filling for sure!

3. Mi Casa Latin Restaurant

Mi Casa has two locations in Ruston.

You don't need fancy decor to enjoy great tacos. All you need are fresh ingredients, some knowhow, and of course, a salsa bar. If that sounds good, this is the place for you. Serving tons of Latin food options, Mi Casa is impressive. There are two locations in Ruston. A smaller taqueria and the larger Mi Casa Latin Restaurant. Both are delicious, but Mi Casa Latin Restaurant has more menu options and even a small market inside. Everything we ordered was amazing, but we most enjoyed topping our food with all of the salsa choices at the bar. If you're looking for Latin food, this is the only place you need to find.

Ruston has welcomed the food truck trend with open arms. We featured several of them when we reviewed some of the best restaurants in Ruston. Chindian would have definitely made that list, but they were on vacation when we were in town. The owner, Kimlin, does a fantastic job of blending East Indian, Chinese, and African cuisines. Everything is freshly made, and she even bottles her own hot sauces. Chindian's hours are fluid, so be sure to follow them on Facebook to know when and where to pick up their delicious food. Even if you have to adjust your schedule to coincide with when they're serving, it'll be worth it.

Kimlin also bottles her own hot sauce.

Grocery store sushi is nothing new. But since Ruston is still growing, it's new to be able to pick up sushi whenever you want it. Thang, the sushi chef at Super 1, creates made-to-order sushi rolls while you pick up your groceries. Grab some sushi and enjoy your meal in the produce section or head to the cereal aisle if that's more your thing.
